Our Impact

At Rosie’s Barn, we recognise that encouraging guests to enjoy and explore the Lake District needs to be balanced carefully with the impact we all have on the environment. With this in mind, these are just a few examples of how we are working to achieve this.

Improving our energy efficiency

Where possible, we have installed LED lighting throughout to reduce energy consumption. We have taken the decision not to install a dishwasher or washing machine as most guests are able to bring enough clean clothing to last their stay with us.

The heating can be controlled remotely so we can ensure that if the property is empty for a few days we can keep the temperature at an appropriate level between guests.

Waste management

We encourage guests to leave items that can be recycled - glass, tins, plastic and paper - separate to their other waste. These are then taken to our local recycling centre.

Orange juice is offered in glass jars which are washed and reused for our next guests.

Bathroom toiletries are provided in containers that can be washed and re-filled.

Water waste (including sewage) is processed in our own water treatment unit, which renders it clean and pure using biotechnology. This can then be returned safely to local rivers.

Electric vehicles welcome

We have a fast charge available for guests who prefer to use vehicles that are fuelled this way. There is no cost; we just ask for a small donation to the North West Air Ambulance.

Responsible food sourcing

To reduce food miles our breakfast meats - bacon, sausages and black pudding - are sourced from local suppliers. Their commitment is to ensure that there is less than 50 miles travelled from field to shop and that animals come from farms who prioritise the welfare of their stock.

Making a positive impact to our local community

We are always happy to recommend local hospitality businesses for guests to enjoy spending time at, helping to ensure the viability of our local economy.

We strive to employ the services of small, local companies where possible when it comes to repairing and maintaining Rosie’s Barn.

We support the work of our local Air Ambulance charity with donations.
